Carly Philpott, Managing News Editor

Carly is a sophomore from Centennial, Colo, majoring in Environmental Studies and Classical & Medieval Studies. The Student was a major reason she chose Bates after a longtime love for journalism. On campus, Carly works as a photographer for Bates Communications and devotedly cares for vivarium animals in Bonney Science Center. Off campus, she can mostly be found with her pet toads or off birdwatching.

Carly was previously a staff writer and assistant news editor for the Student.

Defensive lineman Shane Broughton '26 celebrates a successful tackle in the second quarter. Bates fell short to Bowdoin in their annual faceoff on Nov. 2, losing 35-24 to the NESCAC rival.

After the Maine Flag Company created a now-famous stylization of the original 1901 Maine flag, it has become synonymous for many with the state. These bags sit in the Bates College Store. Some want to restore Maine's official flag to a version of what was approved in 1901, and Maine voters will decide on this issue on Nov. 5.
