Straight Out The Lew: Week of Oct. 30, 2022

NFL: Who is your Super Bowl Favorite?

Dylan: Buffalo Bills. Pairing the elite duo of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs with a top defense makes for an unstoppable team. The Von Miller signing from this past offseason is paying huge dividends as he remains a top pass rusher in the league. If the rumors of Buffalo pursuing Alvin Kamara in a trade prove to be true, then there is no team that will keep up with the Bills.

Luke: Buffalo Bills. To start the season, Josh Allen has been playing at an elite level leading this Bill’s offense. Furthermore, Stefon Diggs has been scorching hot so far and has fully established himself as a top-five wide receiver in the league. Their defense also has tons of talent and is very well-coached, which is why I feel they are the best team in the league currently.

Chris: Kansas City Chiefs. There are a lot of talented, capable teams in the NFL, but it is always safe to go back to the model of consistency over the last five years. The Chiefs are led by the best quarterback in the NFL and have a much-improved defense. Even though they lost to the Bills, there’s no one I trust more right now than Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, and I have no reason to bet against them.

CFB: Tennessee or Georgia?

Dylan: Tennessee. The Volunteers’ offense has been potent all season with Hendon Hooker looking like a Heisman favorite. This past weekend we were able to get a glimpse of the potential that the Tennessee defense has as they limited Kentucky to six points. Considering that Tennessee has the stronger offense, should Tennessee’s defense continue to make strides then there is no reason that they won’t be able to beat Georgia in a head-to-head setting.

Luke: Georgia. This game is very intriguing with Tennessee rebuilding their program to an elite level led by transfer quarterback Hendon Hooker who is my current Heisman favorite. However, Georgia’s defense is on another level and their atmosphere at home will be like nothing Tennessee has seen yet this season. Therefore, I believe Georgia will prove why they are still number one in college football for now.

Chris: Tennessee. Modern college football is reliant on offense. Tennessee has the best offense in college football, and good offense ALWAYS beats good defense. Not only will the Volunteers win this game, but they should be favorites to win the National Championship. The defense is a major question, but when Tennessee puts up 40-plus points this week, it won’t matter.

MLB: Who Will Win the World Series?

Dylan: Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have the momentum in this series despite dropping game two in Houston. Winning home-field advantage in game one was massive for the series—should the Phillies pitching remain decently capable then they have a great shot at winning it all.

Luke: Houston Astros. The Astros have been dominant all year and were my original pick. Their pitching is elite, along with experienced playoff hitters proving that no moment is too big for them. The Phillies are on a great Cinderella run but I would be very surprised if they could overcome this loaded Astros roster.

Chris: Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have given me no reason to get off the wagon now. They managed to get out of Houston with a win, and they will find a way to win at least two games in Philadelphia. Being able to get by Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez in relatively good shape sets up Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies for a title.
