The Bates Student

Amelia Keleher
Amelia Keleher ('21) is an American Studies major with a keen interest in the socio-cultural, political, and environmental implications of food. She grew up in an agricultural village along the Rio Grande in central New Mexico, where she raised dairy goats, chickens, ducks and a pet donkey. When she was 10, Amelia and her family moved to a medieval city in The Netherlands, where she attended school in Dutch and began her writing career through journaling. After completing high school, she took a gap year to work and travel around Spain and Costa Rica, and to adjust to being back in the United States after 8 years abroad. At Bates, she can usually be found on the tennis court or in the Bates Garden.
